What We Do

At Greene County Christian Outreach (GCCO), we offer a range of programs and services designed to provide assistance and support to individuals and families facing temporary hardships. Our goal is to uplift the community and create a more resilient and caring society.

Rent and Utilities Assistance

Are you having temporary difficulty meeting your rent payment or paying your utility expenses? GCCO assists individuals like you by offering temporary support, ensuring stable housing and essential services.

If you need assistance in order to pay your rent or your electric or water bill, please call our office at the phone number below to set up an appointment to meet with us in person.  At that meeting we will ask you to explain exactly what assistance you need and why you need it.  You will need to provide a driver's license showing your home address in Greene County as well as documents related to your income and expenses.

Temporary Lodging

We provide support to transients and homeless individuals by providing overnight lodging, allowing them time to arrange a longer-term solution. We believe that everyone deserves a safe and secure environment.

Transportation

GCCO provides transportation for transients to nearby cities that have facilities and services to assist them long-term.

Thrift Shop

Our Thrift Shop makes clothing and household goods available for sale at affordable prices.  Also, the profits are used to help fund our assistance programs.

Keeping the Lights on

Assisting a Family in Temporary Need of Financial Assistance

Recently, a frightened young woman with a newborn daughter called the St Vincent de Paul Chapter* hotline to say that the power had been cut off to her family’s home. She and her baby live with her mother and her younger brother. The young woman is on insulin, so she needs power to refrigerate her medication. Her mother has been working at McDonald’s for five years, but with medication costs and a newborn now in the household, she struggled to keep their lights on.

The family was nearly $700 behind on their Georgia Power bill.  Because this amount of support exceeds the SVdP support limit, they partnered with Greene County Christian Outreach in order to pay this family’s power bill and get their lights back on that same afternoon. Both mother and daughter were very thankful for the assistance we were able to give. This story of hope is just one example of the help and hope we at GCCO give to our neighbors in need and how we collaborate with other local charities to meet those needs. As the number of requests continues to rise, please help us by providing a hand to those who so need it!!
